Debutant Rachin Ravindra offered New Zealand support from the lower order to pull off a dramatic draw against India as they chased an impossible target of 284 on the last day and ended the day with 165-9. The Kanpur test had been in India’s favor from the start with the strong first inning and later Tom Latham hit a half-century and skipper Kane Williamson went cheaply as well.
Later New Zealand fueled a late fightback with the Wellington-born all-rounder of Indian origin and Kyle Jamieson at the eighth-wicket stand of 46 deliveries later Ravindra also held the fort down for 52 balls with Ajaz Patel to see off Black Caps to a draw. Ashwin’s wicket tally saw him surpass Harbhajan Singh's tally of 417 wickets in the list for Indian wicket-takers list, which is led by Anil Kumble with 619 scalps.
