Andre Russell waited 10 years to score his first T20I half-century, and it came right on time as West Indies forced a strong comeback to win the series opener against Australia on Friday. At the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, the West Indies Batsman scored 50 runs from 26 balls for the first time after making his debut in T20I against Pakistan in 2011. In his 55th international T20 match he hit the sweet 50 spot with a six-over square leg off Mitchell Starc.
Australia had reduced West Indies to 65 for 4 wickets then with Russel’s efforts they put up 145 for 6 wickets. Australia collapsed in their chase and lost by 18 runs in the first of the five-match in the T20I series.
