Shubman Gill has been a breakout star

How has Gill turned heads from that amazing 91 against Australia at the Gabba to taking incremental steps in ODIs in 2022 to ultimately shattering it? In just six ODI games so far in 2023, Gill has scored more than 570 runs. With many more games to go, this only looks to be the beginning of Gill's year. Being in a lineup with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav and exceeding all three of them individually is not something that every kid can take pride in. And Gill accomplished so with grace, aplomb, and daring.

Although Gill has developed great ties with both Rohit and Kohli, he connects more strongly with the India captain, as many productive opening pairings do. The most recent ODI opening duo for Indian cricket, Gill and Rohit, appear to be developing a new sense of camaraderie after putting on partnerships of 212, 143, 95, and 76 in the previous four out of six innings.
