On the last day of the second Test at St George's Park, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 109 runs to clinch a 2-0 series sweep and take the lead in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
The match was set up for an exciting conclusion, with both sides requiring a victory to secure a spot in the WTC final in June. On Monday, spinner Keshav Maharaj ended with figures of 5-76 as the hosts dismissed Sri Lanka for 238 in 70 minutes. South Africa needed five wickets and Sri Lanka needed 143 to win when they began at 205-5, but it was an anticlimax as the home team dominated the batting order to add to their 233-run triumph in the first test in Durban. Kusal Mendes was caught by Aiden Markram off Maharaj, breaking a 97-run stand for the sixth wicket, but it took South Africa seven overs to go through.
