South Africa stay in the lead despite New Zealand’s rally

South Africa continued to stay in control on the second Test on day two in Christchurch while they witnesses New Zealand’s efforts to come back. Colin de Grandhomme and Daryl Mitchell posted a  66-run, sixth-wicket partnership with a half-century to de Grandhomme as Black Caps ended the day on 157 for five at stumps in their chase for South Africa’s 364.

At Hagley Oval, South Africa had knocked out New Zealand in the first half as they were struggling at five for 91 before Grandhomme came to the field to offer some stability alongside Mitchell. South Africa had resumed batting at the start of the second day only to be disrupted by rain then Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj’s 62-run stand-off 78 deliveries gave Proteas more control before they were all out to set up a target of 365.
