At Galle International Stadium, Nkrumah Bonner and Joshua Da Silva tried their best to pull off an upset on the last day of the match but Sri Lanka proved to be the better team as bowlers defended the target well on the final day. Bonner was all set to carry the team to the win but found no support from the teammates on the field as they fell against the clever attacks by Sri Lanka’s spinners – who took 19 of the 20 wickets in the match.
West Indies resumed at 52-6 with a target set at 348. Bonner ended the day at 68 not out facing 173 balls on the last day, his total inning lasted for 4 and a half hours. Da Silva also supported him with a three-hour inning facing 129 balls, for 54. Embuldeniya’s five-wicket haul and Ramesh Mendis’s four wickets helped Sri Lanka to a win.
