Sri Lankan fast bowlers Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana have been ruled out of the ODI series against India, which begins on August 2. This setback adds to Sri Lanka's woes, having already lost spearhead Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara to injuries before the T20I series. In their place, uncapped pacers Mohamed Shiraz and Eshan Malinga have been called up to the ODI squad, alongside standbys Kusal Janith Perera, Pramod Madushan, and Jeffrey Vandersay.
Madushanka suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring injury during practice, while Pathirana sustained a mild right shoulder sprain in the third T20I on July 30. Shiraz has been impressive in List A cricket, taking 80 wickets in 47 matches with an economy of 4.57, while 23-year-old Malinga has claimed 12 wickets in seven games at an economy rate of 5.80. Both bowlers aim to seize this opportunity to establish themselves amid ongoing injury challenges in Sri Lanka's fast bowling unit.
