Sri Lanka-New Zealand second ODI match abandoned due to rain

By the time the game was set to begin at 2 p.m. local time, big pools of water had already formed in the outfield and the covers were on due to the day's continuous heavy rain. At 4:25 p.m. local time, following a ground check, the umpires decided to call the game off. The earliest a game could begin was at 7:02, but it was clearly obvious that no play would be possible since rain was still pouring and there were big puddles in certain areas of Hagley Oval.

The first match of the three-match series was won by New Zealand by 198 runs on Saturday at Eden Park, giving them the series lead. On Friday, the third game will take place at Hamilton's Seddon Park.
