In the opening ODI of their three-match series, Sri Lankan spinners forced a thrilling draw against Team India at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Both teams concluded with a 230-run draw after Sri Lankan skipper and part-time spinner Charith Asalanka struck twice in quick succession with only one run needed and two wickets left. Even though Axar Patel and KL Rahul's combination turned the tide in India's favor, Indian captain Rohit Sharma voiced his displeasure after the game that his team could not win the chase.
In his first ODI after India's terrible 2023 World Cup final loss to Australia, Rohit Sharma smashed 58 runs at the top of the order off just 47 balls. Even with Sharma's massive half-century up front, Team India was unable to surpass Sri Lanka's total of 230 runs.
