When it comes to short-form captaincy, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has predicted that emerging sensation Shubman Gill will lead Indian cricket in the future. Raina, who has played for the Indian squad in all competitions, believes the 25-year-old has a lot ahead of him and hinted that his vice-captaincy in the white-ball matches may be an indication that the BCCI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, is considering him as a future leader.
"Shubman Gill is an incredible talent. Given that Gill is vice captain, someone must be considering him. He is the captain of the future if he performs well in the IPL and wins the title. He'll be the next big star, according to Raina, who was cited by PTI. Gill assumed charge of the national team during their five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe in July 2024, leading the team despite it being a temporary arrangement.
