Kicking off Big Bash League, Defending champions Sydney Sixers got their hands on an emphatic 152-run win over Melbourne Stars. Stars captain Glenn Maxwell could just post four runs before Sixers bowlers got in the way. Sixers posted a score of 213-4 in the first match of the tournament while Josh Philippe and Moises Henriques seemed to be in form scoring 83 run and an unbeaten 76 runs to set up a big target for them to defend later.
Stars in their chase collapsed to a woeful 61 all out in 11.1 overs at Sydney Cricket Ground. Steve O'Keefe scalped 4 for 14 and Sean Abbott went 3 for 14. The tournament would run till 28 January, with a total of 61 matches being played to determine this year’s winner.
