Brisbane Heat had set a high target of 179 runs and for Thunder, it looked impossible to achieve until Daniel Sams walked in the 11th over when they were 100 shorts on their target to record a fantastic score of 65 off 25 balls to pull off a miracle at Manuka Oval while being denied a wicket during the first inning. Sams worked along with Ben Cutting for the 69 runs sixth-wicket partnership to blast off three straight sixes with seven balls in hand and four wickets as well to close out on the target early.
While he later said he was looking to avoid another duck-like with Melbourne Stars earlier. Alex Ross also posted 34 off 24 but left the field with a groin injury which leaves his return uncertain when the team faces Perth.
