T20 World Cup: South Africa Vs Zimbabwe

Rain caused the initial match of the T20 World Cup for South Africa to be cancelled, and yesterday's triumph against Zimbabwe seemed to be a foregone conclusion. After repeated downpours in Hobart, officials attempted to start a nine-over match. They then used the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method of computation to cut the South Africa innings to only seven runs, but even that didn't work.

Quinton de Kock led South Africa to 51 without loss after three overs, putting them well on their way to the revised goal of 64, but that was all they managed. The points were split and, not for the first time, South Africa was frustrated by the weather at a big competition since a minimum of five overs were needed to ratify the outcome. De Kock made an effort to beat the weather, hitting eight fours and a six as he reached 47 not out in just 18 balls, but it was insufficient.
