The pregame warmup between England and India was cancelled due to rain

Before the rain started, Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, won the toss and chose to bat first. Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson, two bowlers, were left out of England's 15-man roster, which resulted in 13 players being named. Prior to beginning their championship defence against New Zealand on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. BST, they play their second and final pregame match against Bangladesh on Monday.

The encounter on Monday will be England's final opportunity to utilise the fast bowler Mark Wood and the leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who haven't played since the 31st of July and the 8th of September, respectively, due to injury. After a stalemate in the 2019 final at Lord's, England miraculously defeated New Zealand on a boundary countback to win the match and take the 50-over championship with them to India. In Thiruvananthapuram, the other game on Saturday between Australia and the Netherlands was also called off.
