Despite the five-wicket loss to Sydney Sixers on the rain-affected Wednesday night, Thunder remains second the Big bash league table. It was the first Sixers win in the Sydney Smash of the season and had eight balls to spare as well. The adjusted target was set at 129 according to the Duckworth Lewis Stern method after Thunder finished the match at 166-6 in 20 overs, Josh Philippe later contributed 64 runs from 36 balls towards Sixers 132-5.
Thunders Alex Hales and Daniel Sams posted half-centuries in 33 and 37 balls respectively, with Hales smashing five fours and three sixes in his innings before Steve O'Keefe dismissed him, Sams later guided Thunder past the 150 mark to end the inning undefeated. Sydney Sixers are at the top of the table with 29 points and Thunders run close behind at 23.
