Virat Kohli seconds wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant

Virat Kohli, India's captain, supported under-fire wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant, saying the team management will give him all the space he needs for the remaining of the five-Test series against England. Pant, 23, has played in all three Tests so far in the ongoing England series but has struggled with the bat, scoring 25 at Nottingham, 37 and 22 at Lord's, and 2 and 1 at Leeds for a total of 87 runs. In the first innings, India was bowled out for 78, while the hosts answered with 432 thanks to skipper Joe Root's 121.

Besides, Kohli takes responsibility for the loss, when questioned if Pant's lack of runs was causing problems for the lower middle order, he held a virtual post-match press conference. Cricketers, according to Kohli, cannot be judged just on the basis of statistics. Furthermore, the fourth Test will be played from September 2-6.
