Wanindu Hasaranga has stepped down as the captain of Sri Lanka's T201

Following Sri Lanka's early elimination from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, Wanindu Hasaranga has resigned as captain of the T201 team. Only last year was the Sri Lankan spinner named T201 captain; he captained the squad in ten games. As per the official statement issued by Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC), Hasaranga claimed to have acted "in the best interest" of the squad when he submitted his resignation letter.

In his letter of resignation to SLC, Hasaranga stated, "As a player, I will always give Sri Lanka my all, and I will support and stand by my team and leadership as always." Hasaranga will continue to be an important member of Sri Lanka's teams moving ahead, the team announced.  On July 26, the Asian squad will begin a bilateral home white-ball series against India.
