West Indies beat South Africa by 48 runs

While the home side's skipper Bavuma scored a brash format-best 144 runs, his team was bowled out for 287 while attempting to reach a challenging total of 336. The way in which the Proteas batting unit was eliminated when the captain was having success would dismay them. To provide the hosts a strong foundation, Quinton de Kock and Bavuma put on 76 runs in the opening nine overs. The former scored a brisk 48 off 26 balls before being bowled out by seamer Kyle Mayers. Three of the top six hitters for the Proteas made their debuts, giving away their lack of experience.

Ryan Rickelton (14) and Tony De Zorzi (27) both made it in but were later defeated by spin, while third-batting rookie Tristan Stubbs (6) top-edged an Odean Smith half-tracker. As wickets were falling all around him, Bavuma continued on his merry way and scored his fourth hundred in a 50-over international match.
