Williamson returns for WI Tests

Kane Williamson headlines the New Zealand squad for the opening Test against the West Indies, returning to the side after a year-long absence from the longest format. He joins a fourteen-man group featuring pace trio Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner, and Zakary Foulkes, fresh off his record-breaking debut against Zimbabwe. All-rounder Daryl Mitchell also returns following a minor groin injury.

Williamson, who skipped the Zimbabwe tour, will prepare by playing for Northern Districts. Meanwhile, fast bowler Tickner earns his first recall since March 2023. However, injuries continue to sideline key players: Kyle Jamieson and Glenn Phillips remain unavailable during their rehabilitation, alongside Matt Fisher, Will O'Rourke, and Ben Sears.

Head coach Rob Walter expressed enthusiasm about reintegrating Williamson’s elite skills and leadership into the group. The series commences on December 2 at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval, marking a significant opportunity for the Black Caps to solidify their lineup amidst ongoing fitness challenges.
