League of Legends fans will soon get an exclusive look at team scrims, as Riot Games introduces a trial phase allowing LEC teams to stream practice matches under specific conditions. Until now, scrims were strictly private to protect strategies, but following controversy over scrim streaming restrictions, Riot has revised its stance. From tomorrow until March 23, LEC teams can stream one scrim session, provided it doesn’t overlap with EMEA Masters broadcasts.
The decision follows backlash after Riot prevented GIANTX and Los Ratones from streaming their scrims, despite no rule explicitly banning it. LEC Commissioner Artem Bykov stated Riot will monitor the trial’s impact, with the goal of making it permanent if successful. Inspired by a similar trial in the Americas, which saw positive fan engagement, Riot hopes this move will boost the LEC’s appeal and transparency.
