Fernando Alonso may not have closed the door on the Dakar Rally after all. Although the two-time Formula 1 world champion dismissed the prospect of competing in the 2027 edition during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, recent developments suggest the possibility remains open.
Spanish journalist Gerard Farré shared exclusive images on Instagram showing Alonso testing a black Prodrive vehicle in Morocco. Prodrive previously collaborated with Dacia on its Dakar programme and could reportedly prepare for the rally under the Aston Martin banner.
Alonso competed in the Dakar in 2020, finishing 13th and coming close to securing a memorable stage victory. The Spaniard has repeatedly expressed interest in returning, provided he feels sufficiently prepared to compete.
However, the Moroccan test does not confirm his participation. The 2027 Dakar is scheduled for January 1–15 in Saudi Arabia, although regional security concerns could potentially trigger a change of venue, with Morocco emerging as an alternative.
