Alonso keeps options open as Aston Martin remains his priority

Formula 1’s driver market is heating up, and Fernando Alonso is once again a central figure. With Max Verstappen’s potential exit clause dominating the paddock and triggering a possible domino effect, several teams are preparing for sudden openings. Amid this uncertainty, Alonso admitted during the Catalan GP press conference that this could be his final race in Barcelona, acknowledging his age and the circuit’s future rotation.

The 44‑year‑old remains undecided about continuing in F1, saying he will evaluate everything after the summer. According to Marca, his preferred option is to stay with Aston Martin despite a deeply disappointing season. This does not mean he will actively seek alternatives, but he is expected to be considered if a top seat becomes available, especially given James Vowles’ recent comments about elite teams listening to opportunities.

What appears certain is Alonso’s intention to keep racing, whether in Formula 1 or in major categories like Dakar or Le Mans.
