Joan Mir is poised to join Gresini Racing on a two‑year contract for 2027 and 2028, with reports from The Race and AS confirming the Spaniard’s decision to leave Honda and return to Ducati machinery. Gresini had been searching for replacements for Alex Marquez, bound for KTM, and Fermin Aldeguer, who Ducati plans to move to VR46. The team has opted for an all‑Spanish pairing, promoting Moto2 talent Dani Holgado alongside Mir.
After winning the 2020 title with Suzuki through consistency rather than dominance, Mir has endured six difficult seasons, including four challenging years at Honda marked by crashes and only two podiums. With Honda shifting its focus to Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso, Mir needed a new opportunity to stay on the grid. Gresini hopes to help him rediscover form, as it did with both Marquez brothers. The move also pushes Enea Bastianini toward a likely future with Aprilia’s Trackhouse project.
