McLaren goes retro at Silverstone

McLaren has revealed a striking new livery for the British Grand Prix, swapping its trademark papaya for a retro white‑and‑green design inspired by the M2B, the team’s first Formula 1 car. The M2B debuted in 1966 under Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, scoring points at the British and United States Grands Prix despite its unreliable V8 engines. The special scheme celebrates the 60th anniversary of McLaren’s maiden season and its first points at Silverstone. It is the second commemorative livery of 2026, following the Monaco design marking the team’s 1000th grand prix.

McLaren arrives at its home race third in the constructors’ standings, still chasing a first win of the campaign. Lando Norris has delivered highlights with a Miami sprint victory and podiums in Japan and Miami, though recent results have been mixed. Chief marketing officer Louise McEwen says the livery honours McLaren’s heritage while embracing innovation through its partnership with Google Gemini.
