Oscar Piastri has firmly dismissed speculation about a possible move away from McLaren, offering one of the clearest statements yet on his future. After weeks of rumours suggesting a sensational seat swap with Max Verstappen for 2027, the Australian used an appearance on the BBC’s Chequered Flag Extra during the Goodwood Festival to underline his intention to remain with the team. His manager Mark Webber had already rejected the idea, and Piastri reinforced that message, stressing his satisfaction with McLaren and the strong relationship built in Woking.
Piastri stated that his focus remains entirely on performance, adding that he expects to stay “for a while” and views the ongoing speculation as background chatter. His direct tone contrasts with Verstappen’s more evasive comments about his own future at Red Bull. With Piastri seemingly off the market, Verstappen’s options narrow to staying put or stepping away from Formula 1, at least temporarily.
