Stroll hits unwanted milestone with 100th Q1 exit at Monza

Lance Stroll reached an unfortunate milestone at Monza, recording the 100th Q1 elimination of his Formula 1 career as Aston Martin struggled badly on a circuit dominated by engine performance. The Honda power unit offered no chance of competitiveness, leaving both Stroll and Fernando Alonso firmly at the bottom of the timesheets and significantly behind the Cadillac‑powered cars.

The result marks a stark contrast to Stroll’s flashes of brilliance, including his memorable 2017 Monza qualifying performance in torrential rain, when he placed his Williams on the front row alongside Lewis Hamilton. Yet the current reality highlights how far Aston Martin’s engine package remains from true competitiveness.

Honda’s Spec‑2 upgrade, introduced at Zandvoort, has not delivered the expected leap forward, and Monza confirmed that the gap on power‑sensitive tracks is still substantial. For Stroll and the team, the road back to fighting at the front appears long and demanding.
