After defeating Bologna 2-1 with two goals from Simone Verdi, Hellas Verona increased their prospects of avoiding finishing in the bottom three of Serie A. Verona's first penalty of the year put them on the road to the victory that tied them for 17th position with Spezia, who will go against bottom club Sampdoria on Saturday.
In the last seconds of the first half, VAR helped Verona by giving them a penalty after Bologna shot-stopper Lukasz Skorupski collided with Adolfo Gaich while advancing for a corner. Later, Simone Verdi’s spot kick landed in the lower left corner. The score was then doubled in the 62nd minute. When Bologna mishandled a cross clearance, Davide Faraoni returned it to the box where Verdi headed it into the bottom right corner. To set up a dramatic finish, Nicolas Dominguez hoisted the ball over Verona’s Lorenzo Montipo in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late.
