"The Argentine Hector Cuper is the new coach of Syria. He and his assistants will travel to Syria in the next few days", informed, laconically, the Syrian federation.
At the age of 67, Cuper coached several clubs in Europe, including managing Spanish side Valencia between 1999 and 2001, with which he lost two Champions League finals, the first in 2000, against Real Madrid, and the second, in 2001, against German side Bayern Munich.
Years later he was coach of Georgia, between 2008 and 2009, of Egypt, between 20015 and 2018, having reached the final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), another lost, of Uzbekistan, between 2018 and 2019, and of the Democratic Republic of Congo, between 2021 and 2022.
