Aston Villa defeated Burnley 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday, setting a new record of four straight victories in all competitions thanks to a brace from Donyell Malen. Malen secured all three points for Unai Emery's team, who rose to 13th in the early-season rankings, with his first two goals of the season either side of halftime.
Martin Dubravka had to make an early save for Villa when Ezri Konsa's header from a corner equalised the Burnley goalkeeper's, but Emery's team quickly got Villa Park bouncing again. The Villa attacker repelled Maxime Esteve's pressure before scoring into the bottom-left corner in the 25th minute after Malen sprinted on to Boubacar Kamara's delicious cross in behind. Burnley, however, came close to restoring parity 10 minutes before the break, but Emiliano Martinez brilliantly sprang to his right to repel Josh Cullen's low strike from the edge of the area.
