Aston Villa's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur

Emi Buendia and Douglas Luiz each scored goals in the second half to help Villa overcome Tottenham 2-0 on the road to start the new year. This was Spurs' fifth league loss of the year. Hugo Lloris spilled Luiz's long-range shot after a sluggish opening 45 minutes, and Buendia scored in the 50th minute after Ollie Watkins chased up and gave the ball back for the Argentine to score.

After Boubacar Kamara dispossessed Harry Kane in the final third, Luiz scored his own goal by converting a John McGinn ball inside the box. A few minutes later, Coutinho took over for McGinn, who had seemed to pull up while holding his hamstring. For that game, McGinn may be injured, therefore Coutinho might take his place and play in an advanced midfield position.
