Atalanta break 60-year goals record

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men fought back from a Federico Chiesa opener to beat Fiorentina 2-1 on Saturday at the Stadio Franchi, with Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskyi on target.

This not only makes them the most prolific side in the division this season, but also the top scorers in the last 60 years of Italian football.

Nobody had amassed 61 goals by the end of Week 23 in Serie A since Juventus in 1959-60.

They ended that campaign with 92 goals in 34 matches, but the division now has 20 teams, so will run for 38 games.

In Europe’s top five leagues, only Manchester City have scored more than Atalanta this season, netting 65 goals in 25 games.
