Athletic Club defeats Real Sociedad, 1-0

After Real Madrid's 3-0 routine victory at Leganes, Athletic Club defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 at home to earn derby bragging rights. Oihan Sancet's early header against La Real at the Estadio San Mames gave Athletic Club their fourth straight league victory at home in Bilbao. The home team easily won the second half, advancing to fifth place in the Basque Country's league standings while the visitors' reaction never materialized.

Sevilla defeated ten-man Rayo Vallecano 1-0 and bounced back from two straight league losses.  The first half was dominated by the home team, and in 27 minutes, Djibril Sow put them ahead. Unai Lopez's red card shortly before halftime rendered Rayo's task all but impossible. The teams are still two points apart in the middle of the table after both teams' chances to score a second goal were unsuccessful. With a late 2-2 draw at Osasuna, Villarreal maintained their incredible recent play.
