Atletico extends its lead with 2-1 win over Bilbao

Luis Suarez scored his 18th goal of the season to extend Atletico’s lead at the top on La Liga. They are six points in the clear at first postion and came back from behind to achieve the lead. Luis Suarez converted a penalty and earned a winning goal that beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 on Wednesday. Atletico had recently drawn up with Real Madrid which had given Barcelona a great opportunity to move within three points of the leaders.

Diego Simeone's side but took advantage of Bilbao to be back in the lead with Marcos Llorente scoring a header and Suarez’s spot-kick answering Iker Muniain's opener that put Bilbao in the lead after dominating the first half. Atletico is eight points in the lead over Real Madrid as they remain in contention for their first La Liga title since 2014.
