Barcelona beat Real Betis 4-2 on penalties

After Carlo Ancelotti's team defeated Valencia on penalties on January 11, the Catalans will play their fierce rival Real Madrid on Sunday. At the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Barcelona and Betis played to a thrilling 120-minute draw before Barcelona prevailed on penalties. After 40 minutes, Robert Lewandowski gave Barcelona the lead, but playmaker Nabil Fekir for Betis equalized with 13 still to play. Ansu Fati scored a beautiful volley to provide Barcelona with the information in the extra period, but Loren Moron's deft backheel flip brought Betis back into the game.

In the shootout, Ter Stegen stopped Juanmi and William Carvalho, and Pedri scored the game-winning penalty kick. Since the switch to a four-team format, Barcelona has failed to win the Spanish Super Cup. Xavi and his squad are in dire need of trophies after concluding the previous campaign without a single one and making significant summer investments despite the club's debts.
