Barcelona wants to add another midfielder this summer. Xavi has set his eyes on the 27-year-old Saul Niguez as the potential target for the role. Catalan clubs already have Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets for the midfield role but Xavi needs a backup in the squad and has even tried to bring in the Spain International last summer as well but could not complete the deal.
Niguez is currently serving a season-long loan to Chelsea after leaving Atletico this summer. So far this season he has made 17 appearances across competitions as he has failed to leave his mark at the Premier League club. Thomas Tuchel's long-term plans do not involve Niguez now, which makes things easy for Xavi who has admired the player from afar and would be willing to offer a deal to the 27-year-old who is contracted to stay at the Madrid club until the summer of 2026.
