Barcelona rejected in approach for Manchester United's Victor Lindelof

El Mundo Deportivo carried the news of the Blaugrana’s interest on the front page of their Wednesday edition a fortnight ago that the Sweden international is an ‘alternative’ to Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt.

Widely regarded as one of the best upcoming talents in world football, the central defender is set to command a €75m fee from Ajax.

His rejection of Barcelona was in spite of Blaugrana club president Josep Maria Bartomeu travelling to Amsterdam to convince the player, as he had successfully done with Frenkie de Jong.

Lindelof, 24, impressed for the Red Devils last season after a difficult opening campaign following a €35m switch from Benfica in the summer of 2017.

The fresh report cites the defender’s agent Hasan Cetinkaya as saying: “Lindelof is in the orbit of a great European club, but leaving United depends on the English club.”
