Bielefeld climbs out of Bundesliga’s drop zone by beating Freiburg

Arminia Bielefeld clawed their way out of the Bundesliga relegation zone with a 1-0 win over a depleted Freiburg on Friday. Bielefeld received a huge boost after Freiburg's Baptiste Santamaria pushed an own goal in the 68th minute. Masaya Okugawa’s shot found Santamaria’s head and bounced inside Freiburg’s goal giving little time to the goalkeeper to block.

Freiburg has won just one match from their last six encounters and gave Bielefeld many opportunities to score. Joakim Nilsson had doubled their lead as well by scoring in the 74th minute but it was ruled offside, Andreas Voglsammer’s shot found the pole instead. Bielefeld is now 14th on the table with Frank Kramer’s first home win and Cologne is relegated in their place while Freiburg finds themselves in 10th place. Three of their forwards are on the sidelines currently, Vincenzo Grifo tested positive, Ermedin Demirovic and Lukas Höler are serving a suspension.
