Marco Reus fantastic goal in the first-half was more than enough for Borussia Dortmund to start their Bundesliga campaign with a sleek victory against Bayer Leverkusen. The goal was struck after ten minutes with Reus dashing towards home on the goalline after Karim Adeyemi's attempt was rendered futile by Lukas Hradecky's swift legs. In added-on time Hradecky was asked to leave due to his handling outside his area after a prolonging VAR review.
The match game was Borussia Dortmund's first since Erling Haaland left to join Premier League champions Manchester City and they are currently not equipped with his replacement - former West Ham and Ajax striker Sebastien Haller - who is undergoing chemotherapy for a testicular tumour. Adeyemi was also replaced after 23 minutes on the grounds of an injury. However, Dortmund had finished second behind Bayern Munich in 2021, so they had a positive outlook.
