Player of the month - Raphael Guerreiro
One of the most underrated players in the whole Bundesliga had another good month. Altough BVB suffered two loses and only won once, the Portuguese international was one of the leading players in three of their four games in December. Goal, two assists and a satisfactory defensive display from the 27 year old. And the most important thing - he is the leading assist-maker in Dortmund’s squad having made 5 assists in 10 appearances in Bundesliga. Impressive for a left-back.
What’s happened during December?
Having reached rock bottom in the 5-1 drubbing by Stuttgart, BVB had to act. The whole team lacked cohesion in their positional play, they were too letargic on the attack and not enough focused on defensive phases. Actions were taken: Favre was sacked and his assistant Edin Terzic took over from him. Since then Dortmund won two games (one in DFB Pokal against Eintracht Braunschweig) and suffered one defeat. So far it’s too early for a proper Terzic evaluation. The new BVB manager seems to have some different ideas of how to approach the game and it remains to be seen how well those ideas are going to be implemented on systematic level. However, one thing is clear - the team has to start getting better results or else they risk the Champions League qualification spot.
