Brazil clinches 1-0 win over Switzerland

The Brazilians had been annoyed by a stubborn Swiss squad at Doha's Stadium 974 and it seemed as if they would have to make do with a point after a Vinicius Junior strike in the second half was rejected for offside. Brazil side was missing its talisman Neymar and required a late strike from Casemiro to throw out Switzerland 1-0 on Monday as the five-time champions locked their spot in the World Cup last 16 with one match to go. With seven minutes remaining, Bruno Guimaraes turned the ball on to Casemiro just inside the box and the Manchester United midfielder's volley shot into the net with the assistance of a minor but vital deflection off Manuel Akanji.

Tite's squad are only the second team to reach for the last 16 after France and the only team apart from the holders to have triumphed both group matches so far in Qatar.
