Breel Embolo's goal in the second half helped Switzerland defeat Cameroon in a close game. Embolo scored against his native nation. However, the African team appeared to be the most likely to score early on when Karl Toko Ekambi had an inch-perfect cross deflected off his toes as he raced into the penalty area by the defender. The Swiss also had a chance to score, but the major goal threat didn't materialize until the second half. Manuel Akanji headed wide from a corner. Soon after the break, Switzerland passed their way from left to right, shifting through the gears, before Xherdan Shaqiri's superb pull-back put it on a plate for Embolo. This was a beautiful team move.
Cameroon continued to pose a threat on the break and from set pieces (Andre Anguissa met a Bryan Mbeumo free-kick beautifully, but his header went straight down Yann Sommer's neck), Switzerland looked the most likely to score the game's second goal.
