Brentford defeated Liverpool 3-1 at home on Monday, ending Liverpool's four-game winning streak and shattering their hopes of finishing in the top four. This was the latest Premier League shock. In the 19th minute, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate put the ball in his own net. Before halftime, Yoane Wissa extended Brentford's lead after his team had two goals disallowed due to VAR reviews during the tense first 45 minutes.
Early in the second half, Liverpool's Darwin Nunez scored, but it was later disallowed for offside. Soon after, Trent Alexander Arnold's fizzed cross from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did offer Liverpool hope, but Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo sealed the victory in the 84th minute. Despite playing without their leading scorer Ivan Toney due to injury, Brentford put a strain on their more prominent opponents and took advantage of some poor defence from the visitors.
