Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich believes his team's mentality has to be examined after a 4-2 loss to Bundesliga minnows Bochum ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg. For the first time in a Bundesliga match since 1975, Bayern surrendered four goals in the first half as promoted side Bochum stormed to a surprise victory, leaving the perennial champions dumbfounded.
Bayern had not lost to Bochum since 2004 and had beaten them 7-0 the previous time the two teams played in September. On nine minutes, Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski bundled in the opener, making it look like a typical afternoon for the perennial champions. But, after a quick equalizer from Christopher Antwi-Adjei, Bochum took control in a frantic 10 minutes before the interval. After a Dayot Upamecano handball, Juergen Locadia handed the hosts the lead from the penalty spot, and an uncomfortable Bayern buckled under the pressure.
