In their squad for the World Cup in Qatar, Ecuador have left out defender Byron Castillo, who is an Ecuadorean national. CAS ruled earlier this month that Ecuador can participate in the World Cup in Qatar despite the fact that Chile had claimed Castillo was ineligible because of the CAS decision.
In September, Fifa dismissed Chile's appeal in response to their earlier complaint that Castillo was ineligible for playing in the qualifiers based on his documents. CAS said the FEF had violated Article 21 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code for using a document that contained false information. The FEF said they used the correct eligibility criteria in selecting Castillo and are examining the next steps as they did not agree with the sanction. Ecuador have always denied that the player was ineligible.
