Callum Wilson has been training away from the remainder of the England squad. He got off the bench yesterday as the Three Lions defeated Iran 6-2 in their first World Cup game in Qatar. The forward is doing some ‘solo conditioning work’ instead. It seems that Gareth Southgate is distinctly watching because of his last injury record and doesn’t want to risk him picking any flaring injuries so early in the tournament.
Questions were asked when Wilson was selected in the 26-man team prior to the former Newcastle man Ivan Toney at Brentford. Wilson is a player who has had injuries in his career but when kept healthy and fit, he has proven his mettle at the top-most potential. He gave Southgate a practical alternative. Right now, Harry Kane and England are carefully supervising his training session ahead of their next group game.
