Carrasco scored for Atletico Madrid as they win 2-1 over Espanyol

The 10 men Atletico Madrid had to be rescued with a late effort by Yannick Carrasco which handed the team a 2-1 win over Espanyol. Atletico had almost dropped two more valuable points at the Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico’s Geoffrey Kondogbia was sent off reducing the side to 10 men and just three minutes later they lost their lead when Raul de Tomas canceled Carrasco’s opening efforts. Carrasco had to rescue the team once more by scoring in the 100th minute which required a VAR consultation late in the match.

The win helped Atletico stay three points ahead of Real Betis in fifth as they came back from the Mallorca scare in the last weekend as they were feared of being knocked out of the Champions League. Carrasco’s efforts brought back hope for Atletico Madrid.
