Chelsea defeated Brentford and took to the top

Thomas Tuchel praised Edouard Mendy after the Chelsea goalkeeper's outstanding performance in a 1-0 win against Brentford. Liverpool's 5-0 thrashing of Watford had knocked Thomas Tuchel's team out of first place just hours before. Chelsea, on the other hand, responded admirably with a spirited victory in their first league encounter with their west London rivals in 74 years. Chelsea's sixth win in eight league games came thanks to Ben Chilwell's furiously struck goal in first-half stoppage time.

Chilwell, who had been out since the start of the season, scored for the second game in a row when Brentford failed to clear the ball and it fell pleasantly for him to strike from 12 yards with a half-volley in the 45th minute. The hosts had previously hit the post through Bryan Mbeumo, and the Frenchman was denied by the woodwork once more in the 75th minute as the Bees launched wave after wave of raids in their second half for an equalizer.
