Chelsea overcame 10-man Southampton 3-1

Chelsea beat 10-man Southampton 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday thanks to late goals from Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell. Chelsea took the lead via Trevoh Chalobah early on, but James Ward-Prowse equalized from the spot in the second half before being sent off for a dangerous tackle. Chelsea took advantage of their man advantage, scoring in the final 10 minutes through Werner and Chilwell to lift them to the top of the Premier League.

After nine minutes, Chalobah broke the stalemate as he reacted to a corner flick on by Ruben Loftus-Cheek. On two occasions, the hosts felt they had doubled their lead, but both strikes were disallowed. After 36 minutes, Romelu Lukaku scored, but it was ruled out for offside, and just before halftime, VAR ruled out a Werner goal after Cesar Azpilicueta was found to have fouled Kyle Walker-Peters before the goal.
