Chelsea: Mendy and Arrizabalaga compete to be in starting XI

The Blues finally welcome Edouard Mendy from Rennes with a £22million contract. Under Frank Lampard, a new summer signee stands a chance to be in the starting lineup. Competing directly with Kepa Arrizabalaga, The 28-year-old might take his place in the starting XI. Just for the sake of comparison Expected Goals (xG) can be used, which provides an insight of the likelihood of a shot being scored taking other things is a consideration as well and we also have Post-shot xG, which informs about goals that hit the target. Last season was not favorable for Kepa as he conceded 45 goals and should have been at 35.5 goals as per post-shot xG comparing to average he underperformed their as well preventing 1.7 goals less than Mendy who managed to save 78.4% of the 74 shots he faced. Thus Mendy could really boost Chelsea’s performance.
