Coppa Italia: Extra time scrapped?

There are reports the Coppa Italia format will be changed, so if it’s all-square, they’ll bypass extra time and go straight to penalties.

The first legs of the semi-finals were played in February, ending Milan 1-1 Juventus and Inter 0-1 Napoli.

The second legs were delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but are now set for tomorrow evening with Juve-Milan and Saturday’s Napoli-Inter.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the plan is to change the format, wiping out the potential for extra time.

Instead, if the ties are all-square on aggregate after 90 minutes, they will go straight to penalties.

This will also apply to the Coppa Italia Final, which is scheduled for the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on June 17.
